This coming Sunday, February 26, 2012, is recognized by our denomination as Urban Ministries Sunday. We were reminded of this observance by Urban Ministries Consultants Lee and Caroline Welkley in our February 8, 2012, issue of the E-News. Below are four suggestions posed by our consultants, as we give thought to how we can become more connected with our inner-city congregations of North America.
1. On this Sunday during your morning worship services, take a few minutes to pray for our more than 35 urban churches.
2. On this special Urban Ministry Sunday, pray that the Lord will speak to the hearts of potential laborers and point some of them in the direction of our urban churches.
3. Let us recognize our urban ministries as places that are ready for significant outreach and a fruitful harvest of people for the kingdom of God and consider how to become more personally involved.
4. Prayerfully seek out ways to connect with one of our urban churches and inquire as to one thing you as a church or group might do to come alongside of a sister church and give a hand this spring.
In participating in this focus, if an interest is sparked or more information about urban ministries is desired, I encourage you to contact Lee and Caroline, as they would be more than pleased to discuss what some of the opportunities of ministry might be.
“Exciting possibilities for service await those who are open to serve in the midst of the multitudes in the cities of our world.” (Lee & Caroline Welkley, ACGC Urban Ministries Consultants, carpar@aol.com)
