News From Around Our Churches - April 15, 2009
NORTH CAROLINA
Palm Sunday at Fellowship Church, Bethlehem, N.C., was a busy day. BICS intern, Sam Cobb, from Ashland, Maine, was honored with the presentation of an inscribed Bible after shadowing Pastor Dave Ross for three weeks. Penny Crusade was initiated with a "30 pieces of silver offering" by the congregation at the conclusion of the worship time, following a triumphal entry by the children (and a real live donkey)! Sunday evening the Penny Crusade Committee prepared an India meal such as would be served at the orphanage featured on the Penny Crusade DVD. (Submitted by Shirley Ross)

FROM THE  ASIA/PACIFIC AREA DIRECTOR
What Easter Is All About: In the Apostle Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians he writes, “We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” As I read these words I am reminded of all of you across the U.S. who pray faithfully for God’s kingdom work at home and abroad in addition to your prayers expressed by your labor and love for Christ and his kingdom. Within this past month alone funds have come in and been distributed to support ministries all over Asia, which is my area of responsibility.

IF Update - April 15, 2009

I love the Easter weekend and always have. I can remember meeting for sunrise services over the years in a variety of locations. One year we met at the beach; what a wonderful sight to see the sun rise on the water. Another time, we got creative (or weird, in the words of some folks) and met at the local cemetery. I always thought it would be a great place to be on Easter weekend, if Jesus decided that was the day he would return. On many occasions, we met on the grounds of the church where people could see us gathering. Even though most people expect to see this kind of thing on Easter morning, it has always proven to be a special time for believers to join together. There’s something exciting about being out in the fresh air proclaiming who we are as believers and declaring what we believe in a public and visible manner.

Fire and Flood Suffered by AC Communities
Alton Bay Christian Conference Center has been ravaged by a 14 alarm fire, which began at 5:00 p.m. Easter Sunday, according to WMUR Channel 9 News. There have been differing reports of what was destroyed by the fire; numbers of buildings involved ranged from 40 to 58. The report we received from the Alton Bay Conference Center personnel was that 45 cottages were lost; no loss of life; no public buildings were damaged; and the plans are to proceed with the full schedule of events for the summer program. For more details you can go to www.wmur.com. The picture shown is courtesy of Rev. John Harper and is of his cottage at Alton Bay.
