A Word From Our Executive Director - April 22, 2009 |
 The Grief of Not Giving
Recently, I was able to participate in a Christian Leadership Alliance telephone seminar. They were teaching about giving and fundraising in this economically disastrous year. One of the most important things stressed in the seminar was that people who love giving, who have a history of giving, are grieving deeply as they have to cut back on their giving. |

IF Update - April 22, 2009 |
Last week I was in the beautiful state of Missouri conducting a Lead Team launch. That’s when pastors get together for a 24-hour, uninterrupted period of time to just do life together. I had a great time!
My hosts took me through the country to our meeting place, and on the return trip to St. Louis, I was treated to a very nice surprise - a visit to the boyhood home of Mark Twain, in Hannibal, Mo. After spending a little while there soaking in some history and memories of reading some of his wonderful books, we headed out.
Just before we drove onto the interstate, I noticed a big red sign that has stuck in my mind ever since. It simply read, “The Restaurant.” Notice, if you will, it did not say “A” restaurant but “The” restaurant. If you will remember back when you took English 101, the word “The” makes something definite. Therefore, this restaurant was not just any old restaurant; it was “The” restaurant.

World Outreach Update - April 22, 2009 |
FROM THE LATIN AMERICA AREA DIRECTOR
I remember back several years ago to my first visit to our church in San Isidro, Mexico, located in the La Purisima Valley of Southern Baja. That first trip, I flew in to the local airfield in a four-seat single engine plane graciously supplied by a ministry associated with Mexican Medical. We had to buzz the airfield on the first approach to make sure that there were no cattle or other obstacles in the way of our landing. It was a several-hour trip from San Diego, and I remember thinking how isolated the location was. Just a few years ago, I made the trip to San Isidro by auto, starting from the town of La Constitucion. Likewise, after hours of travel on a bumpy, dirt road, seeing very few people or settlements along the way, it again struck me how remote this town was. The question of “Who would want to live all the way out here?” entered my mind. |
