World Outreach Update - April 29, 2009

FROM THE AFRICA/EUROPEAN AREA DIRECTOR

Lord willing, our team will soon be on the way to Liberia. After a year of preparation, fund raising and prayer, we will finally be with our church family in Liberia, working and fellowshipping in the love of Jesus Christ. As you can well imagine, our Advent Christian family in Liberia considers this trip, the church we are building, and the medical clinic that is going with it, an answer to prayer. If you could know the hurdles we have faced as we have tried to bring this about, you would agree with me that it’s an answer to prayer.

BERKSHIRE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE SUNDAY
Berkshire Christian College Sunday is this coming Sunday, May 3, 2009. This serves as an opportunity for friends and alumni of BCC to give thanks for the significant contributions this fine institution has made to our denomination and to the larger world of Christian service. This Sunday can also serve as an opportunity to bring the programs of the college to the attention of your congregation and encourage prayer support for the training of Christian leadership. A Word From Our Executive Director - April 29, 2009

This past Sunday, I was asked by Rev. Norman Sherwood to share with the congregation of the Confidence AC Church in Lenoir, N.C., the ministries and services that are supported and delivered by ACGC (Pictured: Confidence AC Church). It’s truly a privilege to have the occasion to visit some of our churches and meet so many of the wonderful people who make up our denomination. Such opportunities come about through invitations extended and meetings scheduled, and others occur simply by being in the area and just dropping in. Over a two-week period, I will have had the opportunity to be included in five different gatherings from the East Coast to the West, and each setting provided me the opportunity to report on what Advent Christians are doing around the world. Many others are “out there” representing the work of Advent Christians as well.

CALIFORNIA
Chatsworth – On March 29 the Advent Christian Conference of Southern California held a service of ordination for Pastor Dale Dawson. The service was led by Rev. Brad Rigney, chairman of the conference ministerial committee; the charge to the candidate was given by Rev. Louia Gransee; the charge to the church was given by Rev. Jim Gilroy. Rev. Dawson is the pastor of the Chatsworth Lake Community Church. The church hosted the service, which was followed by a catered Italian dinner. IF Update - April 29, 2009

I know that not everyone is a sports fan, but I am a diehard fan of many sports, with football and baseball ranking right up there at the top. This may be a stretch, but most people in the United States who are interested in sports, at least on a superficial level, know that last week the NFL held their annual college draft. Believe me, it’s a big event.

Listening to the draft program as I was driving to Florida from eastern North Carolina, I kept scratching my head, wondering why a team would pass on picking a certain player (while he was still available) and choose someone that, in some cases, I had never heard of and, by most reports, were not as good as the well-known players still available.
