IF Update - August 12, 2009 |
During a recent set of meetings, I shared a devotional thought based on a verse found in the first book written by the Apostle Paul to the Thessalonians. Nestled within a verse in chapter two are these words: “ ... just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel ... ”
As I prepared my thoughts, I kept thinking that, according to these words, God had prepared me for something, and this “something” related to my connection to the gospel message. Interestingly, Paul’s original words are found in a passage that speaks of the apostle’s efforts to bring the gospel to Thessalonica where he established a church.

World Outreach - August 12, 2009 |
FROM THE LATIN AMERICA AREA DIRECTOR
As some of you know, I recently completed 60 years on this earth (and nine months, or so I’m told). My wife, Bonnie, had orchestrated, in addition to a “drop in” gathering locally, a card deluge that ended up numbering 137 cards by regular mail, 10 by email, and a handful of well wishers on Facebook. I was so overwhelmed by the number of people who responded ... And it led my thoughts right back to the value of relationships. This week I was talking to Pastor Miguel Mena, our Mexican Conference president, and he related how someone that started at his church in Tecate is now a member of Pastor Leon’s church in Tijuana. |

Announcements and Upcoming Events - August 12, 2009 |
 MEET ME FOR BREAKFAST
Some of you are acquainted with Clayton Blackstone's “Sunday Musings" in a series called Meet Me for Breakfast. The title suggests an invitation to join a friend for a meal and for relaxed but substantive conversation. Clayton characteristically bares his soul, revealing himself more openly than most of us are willing to do. He deals with basic human needs and failings — anger, lethargy, depression, compulsiveness, presumption, disappointment, miracles and tragedy. The autobiographical beginning and the deliberations based on Scripture and history lead to a universal application. |

A Word From Our Executive Director - August 12, 2009 |
Hope Church of Charlotte, N.C., sent a crew of men to address one of the many projects that represent needed repairs around the offices and staff housing. They gave up a Saturday to remove leaky gutters and rusted downspouts and also replaced rotten fascia boards along the eves of the staff house closest to the main building. All this is being done as we will eventually want to wrap the exposed surfaces with vinyl. At the same time, we were able to do a “walk-through” assessment of the office building with an electrician who was a part of the group. With his advice, we are determining what we will be able to do to improve the lighting in our public areas and work spaces. |
