Needed Renovations

When do you decide it’s time to spend some money on needed improvements for your home or office? The obvious answer is when something needs to be fixed. If you had carpet that was 20 years old and was unraveling at several places in the high traffic areas, wouldn’t you replace it? How about wall covering that has not been addressed for more than 40 years? If the room in which you entertain or meet your guests was hot in the summer and cool in the winter because of a failing heating and cooling system, would that be on your list to fix? When fascia boards and soffits are rotting away, something needs to be done, right? Well, these are a few of the projects that deserve attention here in your denominational offices and staff housing. We just received a gift that will help us get started with a couple of the home and office repairs we need to address.

Boston, Mass - Pastor Bruce Wall and other Boston clergy and activists will travel to Concord, New Hampshire, to pray at the State House stairs as a way of "crying out to God" for the governor and the good people of New Hampshire. They will pray for the governor and people of N.H. to work cooperatively with the residents of Massachusetts who are fighting to stop the deaths of so many teens in Boston. Boston has become a "killing field"; hundreds of teens have been shot and many killed on the city streets.

FROM THE ASIA/PACIFIC AREA DIRECTOR

The Beat Goes On!
After 2000 years our dear Lord is still calling folks to join him in his mission to reach the world. Everywhere I go, I run into people who are being called by the Master to serve him in other places . . . some in other countries, some right in their own country. I see him at work all over Asia, tapping young people on the shoulder and asking them to serve in his name. Their bright, eager faces shine with his love and the desire to follow wherever he leads. I see retired people in this country preparing themselves for ministry in foreign countries . . . eager to serve the Master by following his call.

IF Update - August 5, 2009

I am a football fan so it’s getting exciting for me as I anticipate the beginning of the college and NFL seasons. For weeks now, I have been listening to the radio and finding myself anticipating another year of football following my favorite teams. I have friends that do the same. It’s fun for all of us to anticipate how our team will do during the long season. Will we have injuries or will we beat our biggest rival this year?

Some will argue that we shouldn’t have such a long year. Get rid of the preseason or shorten the training camp . . . “Let’s play football!”  they say. I can appreciate the enthusiasm of these folks, but I do believe that they underestimate the value of preparation.
