A Word From Our Executive Director - December 2, 2009 |
As we enter the month of December, our mail boxes become the receptacle for greeting cards, sales flyers, catalogues and appeal letters. No other time of the year do you receive so many solicitations to “give.” As you come out of stores, walk through shopping malls, or open your mail box, the appeal from reputable and worthy charities ask you to remember them this Christmas. Advent Christian General Conference is among the many who are asking for you to consider the worthiness of our appeal.
We just sent out our year-end appeal letter last week. It’s the one time every year we contact everyone on our mailing list to give thought about helping us meet our commitments to the tens of thousands of people we serve around the world. |

News From Around Our Churches - December 2, 2009 |
 MYANMAR
Pastor T has just recently informed ACGC that fire has destroyed many community homes, along with the home of an Advent Christian family that attends his church. He asks that Advent Christians world-wide be in prayer for reconstruction needs. ACGC is making a contribution towards this from the emergency relief fund. For more information, click here. |

Announcements and Upcoming Events - December 2, 2009 |
 MEETINGHOUSE VILLAGE BOOKLET
Advent Christian Retirement Communities (ACRC) is pleased to announce the recent publication of “With A Gracious Hand Upon Us.” The booklet chronicles the first 16 years of Meetinghouse Village (MV), their senior living community in Kittery, Maine.
Authored by former Executive Director Paul Andrews, the story recounts MV’s development from an “idea” in 1986 to the north and south campus communities they have today. Included are the accounts of remarkable events where God moved in the face of considerable odds.
“With a Gracious Hand Upon Us” is available for a gift of any amount to ACRC. To request a copy, e-mail lbk@adventretirement.org.

World Outreach - December 2, 2009 |
FROM THE LATIN AMERICA AREA DIRECTOR
God Doesn’t Change, but He Does Changes
I spent a very enjoyable hour talking on the phone with Mexican Conference President Miguel Mena. Part of the conversation was centered on what is happening at his church, Iglesia Emaús, in Tecate. I am excited for the various activities and movement that is taking place in that small church body, which is recovering from an exodus of three key families in the church. Let me re-cap part of the discussion with you. First of all, this coming Saturday, they are having a church meeting to decide if they want to transfer the main responsibility for the pastorate to Co-Pastor Carlos. Carlos and his wife, Rachel, had one of our house churches in Tijuana and is well qualified as a pastor. |

IF Update - December 2, 2009 |
Her name is Arden and her love is cooking food for people. If that was the whole story, it would not be unlike many other people who like to cook good food. But her story is quite different.
For many years Arden and her so-called friends spent time in and out of jail. Arden herself was convicted nine times for DUI. Add to this a conviction for cocaine use and possession, and you have the makings of a miserable life headed nowhere. I don’t know what happened, but I guess one day she decided that she had had enough of the way her life was headed and decided to do something about it. |
