As we enter the month of December, our mail boxes become the receptacle for greeting cards, sales flyers, catalogues and appeal letters. No other time of the year do you receive so many solicitations to “give.” As you come out of stores, walk through shopping malls, or open your mail box, the appeal from reputable and worthy charities ask you to remember them this Christmas. Advent Christian General Conference is among the many who are asking for you to consider the worthiness of our appeal. 

We just sent out our year-end appeal letter last week. It’s the one time every year we contact everyone on our mailing list to give thought about helping us meet our commitments to the tens of thousands of people we serve around the world.

Pastor T has just recently informed ACGC that fire has destroyed many community homes, along with the home of an Advent Christian family that attends his church. Her name is Arden and her love is cooking food for people. If that was the whole story, it would not be unlike many other people who like to cook good food. But her story is quite different.

For many years Arden and her so-called friends spent time in and out of jail. Arden herself was convicted nine times for DUI. Add to this a conviction for cocaine use and possession, and you have the makings of a miserable life headed nowhere. I don’t know what happened, but I guess one day she decided that she had had enough of the way her life was headed and decided to do something about it.
