IF Update - July 1, 2009 |
 Once again, I found myself sitting on a plane, but this time I was in the middle seat. A few minutes before, I was in my normal seat (aisle) in the row in front of me; but some family members wanted to sit together, and they had asked me to exchange seats so this could happen. So, I made the move.
A few minutes later, a young girl (about 18) came and sat near me. During the flight I discovered that her family, (sitting 10 rows in front of us), were headed to Charlotte to attend a conference on sales. She was tagging along to learn the business. I found this fascinating, so I asked her what she was planning to do with her life.

Advent Christian Sunday School Material
It’s almost time to start sending the fall Sunday school material. As a reminder, Venture Bookstore does carry several different Sunday school curriculums. Our main Sunday school curriculum is the David C. Cook material that is edited to agree with our Advent Christian doctrine. We have several Advent Christian leaders and teachers who read each quarters’ books, making the appropriate changes, and David C. Cook then prints these changes for us. All student books from early elementary up to adults, plus the adult leader’s guide, are Advent Christian edited. Each book that is edited, with the exception of the middle school “The Rock” and the high school “ID,” have our Advent Christian logo on the covers. We are proud to say we are the only bookstore in the world that carries Advent Christian edited Sunday school material.

After many trials and delays the container from Hope Community Church has arrived at the building site in Buchanan, Liberia. Praise the Lord! There were difficulties right down to the end — with the ministry of finance; customs at the port; the truck scheduled for pick-up broke down; another truck was found, but also broke down en route. (After it was fixed it was too late to travel, so Pastor Abraham David and the trucker had to spend a night on the road); each police checkpoint from Monrovia to Buchanan (at least three) required a major bribe for passage of the container. |

FLORIDA
A Whale of a Bible Lesson — More than 40 children literally enjoyed a “whale” of a Bible School at the Village Church in June. The Bible lesson of Jonah came to life as the children climbed into the mouth of a 21-foot whale to learn about how Jonah spent three days and nights inside a big fish because he disobeyed God. It’s a lesson that the children will remember for a lifetime, thanks to the life-sized replica.
The whale was designed and constructed by Village residents, Bud and Joyce Royal, with more than 100 hours of labor dedicated to making the “great fish” experience possible for the children.
