IF Update - July 15, 2009 |
No matter where I go, I find that people are searching for some sense of identity. Everyone wants to be known for something — hopefully something good and worthwhile. Many define a person’s identity in today’s belief as, “you are what you have.” Those who are peddling the latest product know our tendency to buy in to these offers and do everything within their power to get us hooked.
The power of the gospel message is that it meets the deepest needs of people that can’t be met by any other means. When a person realizes the impotency of anything this life has to offer to meet these needs, the gospel is truly “good news.” |

A Word From Our Executive Director - July 15, 2009 |
A week ago today, Director of Communication Justin Nash and I had the opportunity to visit the Appalachian Camp Grounds in Blowing Rock, N.C. The purpose of our trip was to begin collecting pictures and video that could be a part of our 2010 Penny Crusade campaign. The attraction was the 20th session of Camp Sonshine. Living Water Community Church of Memphis, Tenn., has served children and youth from its surrounding neighborhoods through this residential camping experience since 1990. Through the interviews with leaders and campers alike, it was clearly communicated that the outing has had a very positive and lasting impact on the lives of those who attend. Some of those on staff, who were among the first group of campers to come to Blowing Rock, are now bringing their children to enjoy the things that have made the camp such a success. |
