News From Around Our Churches - July 29, 2009 |
 ACGC
Mrs. Leah Dowd, representing the Blake’s Chapel Advent Christian Church, paid ACGC a visit on Tuesday, July 28, 2009. While she came by to purchase some items from Venture Bookstore, there was another reason for the visit. She and her mother, Mrs. Frances Starr, came to hand deliver a check for $41,000 (See picture), which represents this year’s Penny Crusade contribution from Blake’s Chapel. For 15 years the church has been the leading contributor to our annual missions fund drive. All of us at ACGC stopped what we were doing to acknowledge the presentation of this significant gift. |

World Outreach - July 29, 2009 |
 Southern Africa
Advent Christian General Conference celebrates the ministry of Nathan Fernando. He has been instrumental in helping ACGC gain a foothold in Southern Africa. His discipling efforts have been a model for a larger constituency and have led to the growth and maturing of Moses Angbongy, who will be the new ACGC Southern Africa Regional Superintendent. As Pastor Nathan has chosen to work with another group and to develop his ministry apart from ACGC, we have released him from his responsibilities to us with our encouragement and blessings. |

A Word From Our Executive Director - July 29, 2009 |
 Investing in Children
This week, my home church, Dulin’s Grove Advent Christian Church, is hosting a community-wide outreach through their VBS program. While I went to attend the adult class associated with the four-day evening program, I couldn’t get over the excitement and level of involvement of the nearly 40 children in attendance. What truly impressed me was the energy and commitment of the volunteer staff that has pulled all this together. The props, music, teaching, activities and attention to the children are exceptional. At the same time, I thought back to a day I spent at a camp for our children from inner city Memphis, Tenn. |

IF Update - July 29, 2009 |
These are days in which people are worried and concerned about many things, especially in terms of finances. I, for one, could join that crowd. My wife and I have been in transition for more than three years — since I accepted the position of Director of Nurture at ACGC. Many of you know that we have been unable to sell our home. This means many miles of travel back and forth from Charlotte, N.C., to Jacksonville, Fla., just to be together. I must say that while this has been an interesting ride, it has not been unbearable. All along the way, God has been faithful to meet our needs.
