A Word From Our Executive Director - July 8, 2009

For several days now, we have been monitoring the eroding conditions of the political instability in Honduras. The seriousness of the situation has been dwarfed by the media’s coverage of the Michael Jackson saga; a sad commentary on our nation’s interests. The Honduran people have demonstrated their desire to hold onto their fragile democracy that has been threatened by corruption within the government and assaulted by outside dictatorships. The word that is being used to describe the current conditions in the country is “volatile.” We continue to watch closely, with great concern, how Honduras will cope with the unsupportive response of the international community and the threats from leftist regimes.

Every once in awhile, I go through a week where something happens that makes a tremendous impression on my mind and my heart. This past week was such a week.

Unless you were sleeping or had your head under a rock, it may also have caught your attention that some very famous people died — some of them quite unexpectedly. FROM THE  ASIA/PACIFIC AREA  DIRECTOR

As I sit in my nice comfortable office after a cup of coffee and breakfast with a CD playing in the background, I find myself thinking of the people throughout the Asia/Pacific area. It’s really comfortable where I sit this morning. But, within the past six months one of our workers was kidnapped and made a harrowing escape. One of our pastors was arrested and thrown in jail because of his humanitarian help for children. This man, his family, and the people they serve face constant harassment, threats and persecution. These and others whom I know personally, and who have become my friends, continue to serve Jesus faithfully in spite of what often seems to be insurmountable odds. They work for very little remuneration but are so positive in their outlook and faith.
