The Joy of God’s Ownership

When I was in Liberia in May, I had a meeting with the conference women’s ministry. When I asked for their stories I was deeply moved because many of them had stories of hardship; some were widows; some had disabled husbands and, as a result, were responsible for feeding their families and raising their children. They were appealing to me for help — help I didn’t have.

This raises a question for me. How can followers of Jesus Christ be responsible stewards over limited resources without being overwhelmed?

MAINE
In the Fall of 2008, the Auburn AC Church contacted the Maine State Conference (MSC), asking them to help financially with some much-needed repairs for their church. Three members of the State Conference met with them to look at the building and discuss the proposed improvements, knowing all along that the kind of money they were looking for wasn’t available as a gift. Everyone left there knowing there wasn’t much that could be done. In the spring of 2009, Pastor Greg Twitchell, vice-president of the MSC, had a follow-up meeting with some of the leadership and again wished more help could be given. Then the Lord spoke to him about doing a “Mission trip” to Auburn. Many times work crews have gone to Mexico, Honduras and other places to build churches, orphanages and clinics. Why not put together a crew to help build up one of our own churches in the inner-city?

URGENT PRAYER REQUEST
Pastor J Taken by Authorities
June 22, 2009

Dear Friends,

There is a need for urgent and ongoing prayer for one of our Advent Christian Conference of Myanmar leaders – (Pastor J).

(J) is the leader of the group called The Word Mission, which is a member of the ACCM, and one of that group’s ministries is a Bible College, which at the last time we had information, had 16 residential students.

Below are copies of emails received from (Pastor J), (Pastor K) the President of the AC Conference of Myanmar, and from (J)’s wife (E). As you can see from the message from (E), it seems that (J) is in a serious situation right now – he may already be in some kind of custody (as [E] says he is not with them) – and may be facing the prospect of imprisonment or worse, as we have been told that many never leave Myanmar’s prisons alive.

IF Update - June 24, 2009
In this day and age it’s not hard to find information on learning how to speak. One can attend a seminar, view a webinar or read a book on the subject. But, how often does one get an invitation to be a part of a training event on becoming a better listener?

Over the years, I have discovered that I am a much better pray-er (able to verbalize) my thoughts before the Lord, rather than one who is comfortable at simply being in the presence of the Lord to listen and absorb whatever the Holy Spirit might want to say to me.

As a test, the other day while sitting in an airport, I decided that I would just be quite and listen. It was amazing what I heard as I sat there in silence.
