FROM THE LATIN AMERICA AREA DIRECTOR

With constant press reports headlining the upsurge of drug-related violence in Mexico, you may be wondering how this is affecting our churches south of the border. Mexican drug cartels are engaged in an increasingly violent conflict - both among themselves and with Mexican security services - for control of drug trafficking routes along the U.S.-Mexico border. The U.S. State Department has issued a Travel Alert for citizens traveling in Mexico.

For the most part, the violence that is being reported is very limited in the areas it affects. Most of the problems are concentrated in the border area with the situation in Ciudad Juarez (near El Paso, Texas) being of special concern. Fortunately, that city is hundreds of miles away from where our churches are located. The targets of this violence are usually members of the rival drug cartels who are fighting each other for control and Mexican security forces and police who have been tasked with fighting the cartels. Unfortunately, innocent bystanders sometimes are killed or injured when they get caught in the crossfire.

IF Update - March 25, 2009
Buying a car is not my favorite activity. You know the routine. Once you arrive at the dealership, it’s quite common to be passed from one person to another while the salesman disappears and then comes back with a new twist and an elevated price from the one you were first quoted. So, imagine my surprise this past week as I shopped for a car to replace my lease that was coming to an end when my experience was a blessing. I had no sooner gotten out of my car when a very pleasant and beautiful young lady greeted me at the front door. She asked me if this was the first time I had ever been to the dealership. Of course, it was, so she led me to the receptionist who introduced me to a salesman by the name of Kennedy. He, too, was pleasant and very personable. We talked as he showed me around the facility, which, by the way, was clean and bright and top-notch.

Greetings From Your Denominational Offices

One of the great things about being a part of the body of Christ is all the limbs and members out there. This is true at every level, whether you are talking about your prayer partner at church, or Christians you don’t know from other denominations on the other side of the world. We are in this together. Jesus binds us together with cords that can’t be broken.

This week I have been looking into what one brother has done for the body. His name is Brian Kluth. You can find out about him at
http://kluth.org/solutions.htm. His ministry to the body is in the area of stewardship and tithing. What he offers you and your part of the body is great resources from all over the body. His website is a kind of a one-stop spot for helpful resources for churches looking to grow in the grace of giving.
