A Word From Our Executive Director - November 25, 2009

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

When acknowledging the timely and generous gifts we receive regularly from those who support the ministries of ACGC, I often choose to close my letters by writing the words, “With Thanksgiving and Praise.” There are more than 140 passages of Scripture that address the subject of “thanksgiving” from a personal or corporate point of view, and the word “praise” appears many more times.

IF Update - November 25, 2009

There is no need to remind me that I am getting older, but I must admit that a recent experience I had served as a catalyst to giving this more thought.

Last week, I had the opportunity to spend five days with a few thousand student ministry leaders in the city of Atlanta. Every year, I make my way to one of Youth Specialties’ events and spend time with all of the Advent Christian student leaders I can. These are great people. When I think of what many young adults are doing with their time, I am “jazzed,” as one of my friends is fond of saying, to see what they’re doing with their lives.

Okay, back to my age issue. During one of the keynote sessions, the speaker asked everyone 50 and above to stand up. He said some good things about us.

The worldwide director of Agape Houses is Rowena Cabrizos. This ministry is growing worldwide, and she and her husband were recently in Japan meeting with leaders there. The following is their report:

We arrived in Japan on October 17, 2009, and the following day Rev. Clio Thomas arrived, too. Praise God for his provision and for ordering our steps.

FIFTH SUNDAY OFFERING FOR DOWLING PARK

The month of November is one of the months with five Sundays. Fifth Sunday offerings are a means for Advent Christian churches to support the ministry of Advent Christian Village (ACV) in Dowling Park, Florida. This valuable partnership has assisted ACV with its important mission of showing Christ’s compassionate love to senior adults, families with special needs and children for many years. ACV appreciates those who so generously give in order to further its ministry in Christ’s name. Click here to read more.

ACGC
Al Thigpen is receiving a plaque of appreciation from Richard Russell for his 37 years of service on the Advent Christian Pension Board. Currently, the Pension Board is healthy and manages more than five and a half million dollars of assets at market value. We are thankful for many individuals who support the work of General Conference by serving on one of 20+ committees or boards. Thanks, Al, for your faithful service.
