A Word From Our Executive Director - September 23, 2009 |
 Meetings in Charlotte
The week of meetings with the Executive Council, regional superintendents and working committee members was a time of reporting on and planning for our advancing work around the world. Two significant items discussed were the working draft of the 2010 operational budget, which was adopted, and the approval to launch a 150th anniversary campaign which will fund both capital and ministry goals for the next three years. As a part of the meetings, missionaries Jeff and Penny Vann were invited to address the Executive Council (see picture) and then to be the guests of the council at a dinner in their honor. |

World Outreach - September 23, 2009 |
 FROM THE AFRICA/EUROPEAN AREA DIRECTOR
I have been meaning to pass along an excerpt from an extraordinary letter from our leader in Burundi, Simeon Nzishura to Director of World Outreach Tim Fox.
“… the head of state, President Peter Nkurunziza and his family organized a crusade for the whole last week of December 2008 just to thank God for what He has done for him, his family and for all the Burundians. We really thank God for our President who loves and fears the Lord and for the peace we enjoyed during the year 2008.
“The hand of God has also been upon our family and our Ministry as well. I praise God for His protection upon me, my family and my Ministry. |

IF Update - September 23, 2009 |
Sometimes as we go through life we can begin to think that we have it better or worse than others. When something good happens we are thankful and at other times when life is a struggle, we begin to think that everything is against us.
The interesting thing is that you cannot always tell what one is thinking or feeling. This was made very clear to me this week as I was spending time getting ready for my upcoming surgery. As I entered an elevator, I noticed a lady mopping the floor. As a gesture of friendliness, I said “hello.”
Entering the elevator, I told her that I hoped she had a great day. Her response is what sticks in my mind. In her broken voice she said, “I will, because I have a great day every day!” |
