A Word From Our Coordinator of Stewardship and Tithing

For the Fall Stewardship Campaign in our churches, I sent each pastor and treasurer a devotional booklet, “A 40 Day Spiritual Journey to a more Generous Life” and an accompanying resource CD by pastor and stewardship teacher Brian Kluth, as a tool to highlight stewardship in individual lives and the life of your church as we “learn to live open-handed in a tight-fisted world.” The following testimonial was included in the material.

“NOTE:
When we gave out these 40 day devotionals at our church for everyone to read from late October to early December, we saw a 41% INCREASE IN GIVING in the following months!!!”

FROM THE ASIA/PACIFIC AREA DIRECTOR
One of the great things about the Church of Jesus Christ is that every believer in Jesus as Lord is connected with every other believer. We are all a part of his body, which is the Church. This means also that we laugh and cry together and are inseparably bound to each other. As I receive regular news from Asia I am reminded of this fact.

Within the past few days, I have received word of a tragic accident in the Philippines — one of our pastors lost his wife when the motorcycle on which they were riding collided with a caribou. Please pray for Pastor Hermogenes Mahinay and his family and the church family where he serves. All are impacted by this tragic loss.

IF Update - September 30, 2009

There is much to be learned from experiencing something yourself. For years, as I served in the pastoral ministry, I always cared for people, especially when they lost a loved one, but I didn’t really know how they felt until I lost two of my closest loved ones. I sympathized but couldn’t really empathize.

Going through major surgery recently, being hospitalized and experiencing recovery has once again taught me some valuable lessons about life, both physically and spiritually. These thoughts are fresh and raw as I write today because I continue to be in the midst of this process.
