A Word From Our Executive Director - January 6, 2010

Jan and I are ending our tour of the Holy Land as we have celebrated our fortieth wedding anniversary. (Picture was taken outside the wall of the old city of Jerusalem.) Rev. Lee Welkley and Rev. Steve Epting served as our hosts and coordinated the tour for fifteen of us from Maine, Florida, California, Illinois and North Carolina. It has been a wonderful and meaningful time spent with some new friends and long time ones as well. We will be leaving for home 1:00 am on Thursday and should be back in the office Friday afternoon.

KENYA
We recently sent funds to aid in hunger relief and school fees for the orphans in Kenya. They are suffering from a famine in their country. The response & pictures below were received from Simeon Rianga, the A.C. Conference President:

“Greetings to you in the most blessed Name of Jesus Christ our Lord and King! Glory! Thank you for your love and concern for us and the Lord's ministry in our midst.

“It was really more exciting to know that you have committed yourself in great love to assist us here as a growing ministry of the Advent Christian Church Kenya conference. That is really INSTRUMENTAL in fulfilling the "GREAT COMMISSION" of our Lord Jesus Christ. Sincerely brothers, we have no words to express our thankfulness unto you.

World Outreach Update - January 6, 2010

FROM THE WORLD OUTREACH DIRECTOR

In the new year ahead, you will have weekly opportunities to read of the exploits of your partners across the street and across the sea. It is our prayer that such news will inspire you to pray and act.

John and Maeo Middlewood are two of your partners who are ministering the gospel in Thailand. They serve in the community of Nakon Phanom. Recently, Brother John sent word to us of a young person who has just found Jesus but is coming under significant opposition from their non-Christian family. He asks that we pray that this person grow in their faith in the midst of struggle.

Abraham David is one of your partners who ministers in Liberia. He praises God for the relationship he has with Area Director Russell Carle. “How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!” (Psalm 133:1).

IF Update - January 6, 2010

I learned a valuable and interesting lesson over the Christmas holidays, one that seems to fit quite well with my understanding of what it means to be a believer.

It came to mind during an attempt to train my son’s dog against demanding that he be in control. One evening, when I attempted to take him down to sleep with my son, he became very aggressive and began growling and barking ferociously with me.

Eventually, I had to l let him cool down before I could manage to get him to move. For a while, it was a stand-off to see who would gain the edge and get the other one to give in. I, the adult, used what I thought was common sense and let things calm down a bit before I once again tried to get the dog to obey.
