From ACGC – May 15, 2019

Last week I traveled down to north Florida to the Advent Christian Village, one of the oldest and arguably one of the best ministries of our denomination that serves over 700 residents. It is a retirement community that offers housing and a strong sense of community, fellowship, discipleship and medical care. It’s amazing that this ministry continues to thrive while following its mission to extend care to all income levels.

“It is, first and foremost, a ministry whose purpose is to express Christ’s love to those we serve. We want this ministry to be available to all, no matter their income level. ACV’s full continuum of care is available to everyone, not just those with large nest eggs. Those who have the means to pay for their care, but those who have outlived their resources are offered assistance with basic necessities. Many of those requiring assistance are retired ministers and missionaries who dedicated their lives to Christian service, surrendering the opportunity to gain material wealth” –

The ACV community offers permanent homes, rental homes, apartments, townhomes and lots for manufactured homes. For those that need care, there is assisted living and skilled nursing care including specialty memory care. Residents have access to their own medical center (pharmacy, outpatient rehab and dental clinic), church, community center (indoor pool, gym and exercise classes), fire station and regional library. Camp Suwannee Youth Camping Program is also on the ACV grounds.

The Village has developed these different housing options to include HUD housing assistance which helps residents afford to live on limited retirement funds. Through their income-based rentals, the Village enables seniors to afford access to this special Christian community.

The board meetings I attended began on Wednesday evening and went through lunch on Friday. During our meetings we heard about the ongoing needs of the community and the administrative challenges to keeping this ministry operable and affordable. The support given to the Village by Advent Christians like you coupled with donations from generous partners give retirees of all economic backgrounds access to this community. This is an incredible giving opportunity that I invite you to consider. You can read more about supporting ACV here.

If you haven’t been down, I encourage you to plan a visit. Go by the historical museum and learn about the individuals that started it all more than 100 years ago. Please share with your churches that an Advent Christian retirement community is open and available to them and their loved ones.
