News From Our Churches – April 17, 2019

On April 6, 2019, the Piedmont Conference hosted an event at the Charlotte campus of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. The event was attended by both in-person (12) and online participants (6). The conference focused on the use of technology in ministry. The opening session was led by Dr. Gerry Wheaton who gave some instruction on using digital resources for doing Biblical exegesis and understanding the context of Scripture. Matthew Wasielewski (technology librarian for all four campuses of GCTS) presented a database of open access resources for doing research into Biblical studies, church history and other related subjects. The group was then treated to a tour of the campus led by Dr. Robert Mayer (library director of all GCTS libraries). After lunch, we received a presentation from the GCTS admissions team on learning opportunities at GCTS Charlotte. The final session was led by Michael Winson. Mike is the Media Services Manager for the Charlotte campus. He gave an excellent presentation on the use of social media. This provided a good starting place and knowledge base for churches looking to use social media to build community with millennials and others who frequent social media.

Erwin and Rowena Cabrizos and their family, Shori, Rackie (daughters) and Zoe (son), will be in Charlotte for the next couple of weeks at the Advent Christian General Conference executive house before attending the AC Leadership Conference in Waymart, Pa. on April 30. Please continue to be in prayer for them as they juggle the rigors of traveling and sharing what the Lord is doing through Agape House ministries.

On Sunday, April 14, Rowena spoke at the ACGC Missions Celebration held at Central AC Church in Lenoir, N.C. It was an enjoyable evening that allowed a wonderful time of informal fellowship. Photos below:

The Cabrizoses will be mission representatives at a Missions Celebration at Banner Chapel AC Church in Benson on April 27 and will also speak in several local churches in the area.
If you would like to have the Cabrizoses’ speaking schedule while they are in Charlotte, please contact Trena at

Vacation Bible School (VBS) is taking place in eight Sunday School Extensions (SSE) during the month of April. Many children have heard God’s Word through these ministries.

The VBS materials being used by the Agape House ministries are from Advent Christian churches that donated their 2018 VBS materials to the Agape House Philippines ministry. Agape House ministry leader Rowena Cabrizos is extremely thankful that these materials were passed along to them. If you have materials that are left over from your 2019 VBS, please consider sharing them with the Agape House children in the Philippines. Contact Trena ( in the Missions office for a shipping address.

Orphan Support

Gifts from the International Missions office have been sent to the Omosasa Mercy Home in Kenya to aid in their orphan ministry. Pastor Samuel Ondieki writes a letter of thanks for the gift:

“Hello, praise Jesus! I am humbled and blessed to hear from you, Rev. Bryce Whiting, man of God. Your team (AC churches) is wonderful people. On behalf of the entire orphanage we say thanks to the donors. For your great support to the orphans, we bought mattresses and blankets to replace worn out beddings and food for orphans.
We appreciate your donations so much brothers and sisters.

Conference President Peter Motende attended the function to present the blankets and mattresses. (Pastor Motende is pictured in jacket.)
