Church Planting (83 – 11)

Whereas, we as a “People of the Promise,” believe that there is “life only in Christ”; and

Whereas, many in our world today have rejected the institution of church as it is sometimes perceived; and

Whereas, new church ministries that are more focused on incarnational and missional relationship ministries are finding the most success in reaching the unsaved around us; and

Whereas, God is raising up in our ranks men and women with vision, understanding, skills and passion for reaching the lost with these new methods;

Be it Resolved, that we encourage all of our churches, conferences, regions and people to prayerfully, financially and personally support the starting of new churches; and

Be it further Resolved, that we wholeheartedly and practically encourage those in our denomination who are planting churches; and

Be it further Resolved, that through the prayer ministries of our local churches these church planting efforts be given priority; and

Be it further Resolved, that we have every church planter present at this convention come to the front of the auditorium to be recognized for their

very special calling, and that we ask Rev. Rick Qualls to lead us in a prayer for God’s blessing, and that a copy of this resolution be sent to all church planters who could not be here in attendance, and that this resolution be published in all denominational publications as is appropriate.

Open Door Policy (70-68)

In seeking to further the theme of this conference, “Evangelism, Our Task in the 1970s” and attempting to carry the gospel of Jesus Christ to all men.

Be it Resolved that this body call upon the individual conferences and local congregations to actively adopt a policy of opening the doors of church membership to all committed Christians of like precious faith regardless of their race, color, social or economic standing, and

Be it Resolved that the Executive Committee counsel and encourage all conferences and local congregations in adopting such an open door policy within the next biennium, and, from time to time publish in the Advent Christian News a list of those churches willing to take such a stand, and

Be it Resolved that our national publications be urged to foster this policy through the publishing of related articles, and,

Let us Further Resolve that we as individual Christians will commit ourselves to stand against prejudice and discrimination by demonstrating in our daily living the love of God to all people.
