A Church of New Converts Begins in Musoma

Pastor Johnson Odoyo

TANZANIA

“So there was much joy in that city” (Acts 8:8).

At a funeral, Pastor Johnson Odoyo was led by the Holy Spirit to call for people to repent of their sin, to forgive one another and to find freedom in Christ Jesus. A man came forward and confessed that he had been planning to murder his adulterous wife, her partner, his children and finally himself. He paused often during his confession because of the brokenness of his heart. He asked the Lord Jesus to be his savior and Lord. He dedicated himself to live for God if God would give to him the strength to do so. The adulterous pair also confessed their sin and sought forgiveness from God and from one another. A family began to heal that day.

Stories like this always require follow-up. We ask the questions:

  • What happened to this man and his family?
  • Did he continue to follow the Lord?
  • How genuine was this display of repentance?

An answer to these questions came this week. The man begged the AC pastors, “Come to my village. Come to Musoma and tell us all about Jesus.”

Pastors Johnson, Amos and Elisha spent the last full week in January in this dark village of Musoma going door-to-door with the gospel. The results were fantastic as demons came out of many witches. Being set free from bondages they hardly had been aware of, they burned their fetishes and charms in a bold testimony of their new lives in Christ. The news spread further as former clients of these witches demanded to know why they could no longer purchase their spells, blessings and curses. The answers came with a fresh presentation of the greatest and most powerful God of all who gave his life for them.

In that one week a new church had begun. The pastors returned to Mwanza and summoned the council. On the day of this writing, they are asking God who he has set apart as a pastor to this new church. Let’s pray with them for this young body of Christ in Musoma, Tanzania.
