Advent Christian Pastor in Myanmar Missing, Presumed Killed by the Military

MYANMAR – Pastor T has told us that his brother, Z, who is also a pastor, has been missing since March 8. Their family believes he was killed by the military. Pastor Z, together with his family, lived and ministered in Sagaing Division, in the north central region of Myanmar. Military units were passing through his village area. When local armed resistance groups heard of it, they urged all residents to flee to nearby villages or into the forests for safety. Pastor Z and his family did so. But because of urgent family concerns, Pastor Z decided to return home on his motorcycle. That was the last anyone has heard from him. Five days after the military had passed through the village, village leaders started to return. They looked for Pastor Z, but all they found was his motorcycle parked next to the now burned-down family home. Family members believe the military killed him, threw his body inside the house and burned it all to the ground. Fighting between armed militias and the military is continuing this week in the areas around the village. This is preventing the family from returning to recover Pastor Z’s body.

Pastor T asks that we pray urgently for the safety of Pastor Z’s family, for provision of their daily needs and for the Lord to provide them with new housing. Not only have they lost their loved one, all their belongings were destroyed when the military burned their house.
