Advent Christian Women's Ministries

“Convinced of the imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ, Advent Christian General Conference exists to Encourage, Equip and Empower Advent Christian churches worldwide to be obedient to His Great Commandment and Great Commission.” This is Advent Christian General Conference’s mission statement. So, what will you currently find the Department of Women’s Ministries working on to take part in that mission?

Our main goal is to support churches in their efforts to minister to women in the congregation and local community. There are several ways we go about doing this. For churches who don’t have an active women’s ministry, we provide consultation services to help them establish one that is designed to fit the needs of their ministry. For churches that have a women’s ministry, we recommend practical resources that have been found to be biblically sound, such as Bible studies, websites, women’s events and even training programs for those who would like more education to become leaders in women’s ministry. You can find all of this, plus helpful book recommendations and review videos on our website, www.acgc.us/womensmin/.

We have a passion for pastors’ wives. We have found that the biggest challenge for them is loneliness. It’s often difficult for them to find any true confidants. Several experience depression. Many feel the pressure of their family living in a ‘fishbowl’ of sorts, always being watched by their congregation. Pastors’ wives long for connection and need our support. In the Department of Women’s Ministries, we strive to find ways to encourage these women who are supporting their husbands in their pastoral roles, and we help local congregations to do the same. If you want some ideas for some good ways to do this, feel free to reach out to us anytime. We are also happy to announce that we will be hosting a pastors’ wives gathering at the 2023 Triennial Convention. Keep on the look-out for more information about that coming soon!

In 2021, we launched an anti-human trafficking initiative geared toward creating awareness of this issue. We have had an overwhelmingly positive response to this and many of our churches and women’s ministries have connected with organizations in their area to join in the fight against this atrocity. On our website, you can download the Human Trafficking Resource Guide. It provides information about and has recommendations for organizations that are doing good work in the fight against human trafficking that have been found to be fiscally responsible. It also provides a list of books, movies and documentaries we recommend for those who would like to learn more about human trafficking. If you would like further information on what your church or ministry could do to join the fight, please contact our office.

The Women’s Home & Foreign Mission Society is a branch of our women’s ministry efforts. The WHFMS has been in existence for over a hundred years and strives to encourage, equip and empower women for personal and group development and effective service in ministries and missions at home and abroad. Most groups meet monthly at their home churches. With missions (at home and abroad) as their key focus, they support ministries in their churches and communities and also are a liaison to their churches regarding the ministry efforts of ACGC. To find out more about this organization, you can download the WHFMS brochure here.

The Coordinator of Women’s Ministries, Beth Larkin, is always available to assist with ministry launches, train women’s ministry leaders, facilitate workshops, offer assistance for specific programs or speak at your local or regional event. She can be contacted at blarkin@acgc.us.
