The 16th Annual Fellowship Church Golf Challenge

Join us for the 16th annual Fellowship Church Golf Challenge Friday, October 1, at 12:45 p.m. at Brushy Mountain Golf Club in Taylorsville, N.C.

Last year, 68 golfers (one of our largest fields ever!) teed it up for this elite competition and 24 came away with winners’ trophies (awarded to the top two teams in all three flights). These awards, plus door prizes, two longest drive awards, four closest-to-the-pin awards, a great free lunch and a chance to win $10,000 for a hole-in-one on #11, makes for a day of great fun, fellowship and lots of winners.

This year’s tournament proceeds will benefit Penny Crusade. We hope to see you there, and because it’s for such a great cause, we hope you’ll invite several friends to come along as well. We’ve kept the cost the same, and we promise a generous number of prizes. You’ll also eat well and have fun!

Feel free to duplicate this brochure if you need more to distribute, or call us [Dave Ross: (828) 495-8086 or Lynn Preslar: (828) 495-8818] for more and we’ll be glad to provide them. Hope to be hearing from you by Tuesday, September 28 with your registration information. (All fees can be paid the day of the event.)

Pastor Appreciation Approaches

October is Pastor Appreciation Month! Pastor Appreciation materials were mailed to every church at the beginning of the month. If you have not received these materials, please call our office or e-mail acpub@acgc.us. Those materials included a simple three-step guide to blessing your pastor in the month of October. You can also find this material by clicking on the “Pastor Appreciation slide” on our homepage. Also included was a flyer called “50 Creative Ways to Bless Your Pastor.” If you would like additional free copies to mail to your church members, please let us know. Serving as a pastor is always challenging, but this year has presented some new challenges to ministry that could be very discouraging for pastors. We at Advent Christian General Conference would like to encourage your church to take this opportunity to express to your pastor or pastoral staff just how valuable they are and how much they are appreciated.

However you celebrate the life, ministry and sacrifice of your pastor during Pastor Appreciation Month, we pray you do so with love and generosity.

Darkness to Light Training Available for Your Church

Darkness to Light is a non-profit organization dedicated to “empowering adults to prevent child sexual abuse” (d2l.org). We offer a free two-hour certificate class to any church that is ready to equip their people to prevent, recognize and respond to incidents of child sexual abuse. ACGC has three certified facilitators on staff that will deliver this training as travel and schedule allows.

The facilitator-led group training utilizes the following:

  • A two-part DVD presentation with commentary from sexual abuse survivors, experts in the field and concerned adults.
  • Facilitator-led discussion emphasizing important issues in prevention within the community and organizations that serve children and youth.
  • An interactive workbook facilitating discussion, reinforcing key concepts, and serving as a resource and personal action plan for resolving child sexual abuse(d2l.org).

D2L training will give you practical steps toward prevention and the framework to recognize children who may be in danger. The accompanying workbook contains valuable action steps that provide a path from abuse recognition to resolution. So far, we have trained 571 people. We would love to see that number increase as we work to make our churches safe havens for the children in our communities.

Let us know if we can assist you in planning a D2L training at your church. If you have any questions about this or other services offered by ACGC, you can email mbroadway@acgc.us or call us at 704-545-6161.

New Release in Advent Christian Classic Reprint Series

Himes Publications announces the release of “Pebbles from the path of a Pilgrim” by Harriet B. Hastings. This is the second volume of the Advent Christian Classic Reprint series.

In her memoirs, Harriet B. Hastings, recounts her life as an 19th century Christian woman evangelical leader. Harriet depicts the depths of the poverty and abuse of her early life. Only by God’s grace did Harriet respond to her deprivations with hope and trust in her Savior. She recounts her devotion to following God and the practical means by which she expressed her devotion to the Bible as her rule of faith and practice.

Harriet lived her commitment to doing what the Bible requested. She opened her house to those less fortunate than herself; generously shared her food and belongings, including giving away her husband’s second (of two) suits; and believed God would abundantly replace anything she gave to others. She also exhibited this compassionate service through: 1) rescuing young ladies from human trafficking and 2) undertaking relief work among the freed slaves and war impoverished residents in the post-Civil War south.

Not only did she support her husband, H. L. Hastings, in his itinerant evangelistic ministry, his publishing enterprises, and his anti-infidel campaign, she also engaged in evangelistic ministry herself. She shared freely the gospel with people and became a well-known evangelistic preacher and Bible teacher. This in a period where women did not frequently take such a public role in ministry.

“Pebbles From the Path of a Pilgrim” provides a glimpse into the life of a 19th century Christian woman of faith and ministry. In so doing, it challenges the 21st century readers to recommit their lives to loving and serving God with whole hearts.

Available on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle editions.
