Aurora Pastor Appears as Roman Soldier at Halloween Worship Service

ILLINOIS – Nov. 2, 2021 – On Sunday, Oct. 31, the Rev. Matt Mull, pastor at Aurora Advent Christian Church, transformed into an ancient Roman soldier. For visual aids, he displayed replica Roman defensive and offensive gear to illustrate his sermon, “Armor of God.” The sermon continued his fall series, “We Can’t Stay Here.”

Replicas displayed by the Rev. Mull included a soldier’s helmet, large and small shields, a double-edged sword and some items of clothing. He noted that the Roman army was the first to issue standard foot gear to soldiers to improve their mobility.

After welcoming congregants to the service, the Rev. Mull went out of sight behind the altar and changed his golf shirt to a soldier’s shirt.

The pastor cited Ephesians 6:10-20. Scripture references to military gear included: “Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s scheme,” “…take the up the shield of faith…” and “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit…”
