Faye Doris Chambers
Thursday, 12 July 1928 – Sunday, 20 March 2016

Faye Gabrielsen Chambers, 87, died Sunday, March 20, 2016, at Dacier Manor at the Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park, Fla., where she resided. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. Mrs. Chambers was born on July 12, 1928, and grew up in Providence, R.I. She was the oldest daughter of the late Henry and Theresa Gabrielsen. Always a good student, she graduated from Classical High School in Providence in 1946 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Aurora College (now Aurora University) in Aurora, Ill., in 1950. In 1972 she received a Master of Arts with a focus in reading education from Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C.

Mrs. Chambers was an educator. She taught and tutored elementary school students for more than 35 years in public school systems in Illinois, Indiana, West Virginia, North Carolina and Florida. She was a lifelong reader and focused on helping her students grow their own love of reading. She possessed deep faith and also shared it as a Sunday school teacher and Bible study leader.

She was a devoted, loving wife, mothe, and grandmother. She was married for 60 years to the late Rev. Weldon M. Chambers, whom she called “the love of my life” and was his partner in ministry. She is survived by her two sisters, Ruth Waterman of Exeter, R.I., and Mildred Gabrielsen of Middleton, Wis., and by her four children: Rolly L. Chambers and his wife, Nancy, of Charlotte, N.C.; Sue C. McKee and her husband, Tate, of Lenoir, N.C.; S. Brent Chambers and his wife, Jeannette, of Live Oak, Fla.; and Tami L. Gutek and her husband, Glenn, of Oviedo, Fla. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Chambers generously shared her gifts of service, of wonder at all God’s creation, and of genuine friendship. She was thoughtful, caring, inquisitive, and always eager to learn. She enjoyed good conversation, good music, giving to people, studying Scripture, and the love of her family and friends.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Chambers was held Saturday, March 26, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Village Church in Dowling Park, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Advent Christian Village Benevolent Fund, Post Office Box 4305, Dowling Park, FL 32064 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
