Easter Celebrations in Mozambique

MOZAMBIQUE – The following is a message received by Africa/Europe Area Director Bryce Whiting, from Mozambique AC Conference President Samuel Kasakatira, using his own words. Wondrous reports on Easter celebrations!

“Dear Brother Bryce, glory be to the Mighty God! We had a successful Passover in Mandua Village. Being the only church in this village who celebrated this year’s Passover, people around the area came also to hear the Word of God!

“On Friday, pastors gathered for the discussions and we were given timetable forms [schedules].

“On Saturday morning, we had a worship prayers led by Pastor Yesaia Mandua. [Notice how many Africans refer to the service of worship as “prayers.”]

“In the afternoon we had another service led by pastor Luke Dezmata.

“Early in the morning of Sunday we traveled about 13 km from Mandua Village to Jingo River for baptism.

“Fifty-seven youths surrendered their lives to Jesus and were baptized! Pastor Oliver preached from Matthew 28:19-20.

“Pastors Jas, Oliver, Ussen and Kasakatira prayed in the Jingo River before baptism as rumor reached us that sometimes crocodiles are seen in this river. (Four pastors joined hands in the middle of the river and prayed for protection over the 57 candidates for baptism, understanding the attraction it would be for hungry crocodiles. Others joined them in making a protective circle for those being baptized, putting their own lives in danger for the sake of others.)

“Praise the Lord! We came out from the river without any harm.

“Now it was Celebrations Sunday with dancing and singing, as Jesus had risen from the death!”

Praise the Lord for this wondrous news from our brothers and sisters in Mozambique!
