Ron Thomas Receives Medallion for 50 Years of Service

One of the privileges of serving as Executive Director of ACGC is to be able recognize the faithful pastors who serve throughout our denomination. This past Sunday, I gave the 50th Anniversary Servant Medallion to Dr. Ronald P. Thomas Jr. celebrating his 50 plus years of service as an ordained minister in the Advent Christian Denomination. Ron and his wife Jan started their ministry in Ashland, Maine in 1970 and then moved to Camp Suwannee in 1973 to serve as camp director and Florida Conference youth director. He continued to serve at the Advent Christian Village in a number of positions until he became senior pastor of Bixler Memorial A.C. Church (The Village Church) serving from 1989-2004. He was elected president of the denomination in 2002 but then moved in to the position of executive director of ACGC from 2004-2015. We thank God for both Ron and Jan and the great example of servant leaders they have been through the years!

Eastern North Carolina Conference Meets at Camp Dixie

This past weekend I had the privilege of attending the Eastern North Carolina Conference at Camp Dixie near Fayetteville. The next few months have historically been a busy time of conference meetings throughout our denomination and thankfully many of our conferences have been able to go back to in-person gatherings. It was good to come together with church leaders from the conference churches and hear reports about ongoing ministries. I’m thankful that they gave Rev. Adrian Dixon, one of our MTI field directors, time during the reporting to share about the opportunities for training of emerging leaders in both the two-year and three-and-a-half-year programs. During my time, I also was able to thank the churches for the support for both 2020 and 2021 in United Ministries and Penny Crusade.

Camp Dixie was able to call their business session into order during the morning session and shared how had God had blessed the camp even during the difficult times of not being able to have retreats or camps. They honored Camp Executive Director Ronnie Lefever as he will be retiring in the end of March and shared that the new Executive Director would be Rev. Joe Brown.

They also introduced new staff members that have been added in the last few months to the Camp Dixie Staff.

The meetings ended with Rev. Penny Vann leading in the installation of new officers for the coming year.
