Celebrating Commitment to Christ

This week I traveled to Houston, Texas to visit with my daughter, son-in-law and my grandsons. It was a great trip that was planned around my first grandson’s baptism. Jaxon accepted Christ and I had the privilege of coming over to do the baptism. The service actually took place on Monday evening and all the community was invited to come celebrate Jaxon’s testimony and confession of baptism.

It has been good to spend time connecting with Jaxon and Aiden about what it means to have a relationship with Christ and how it changes your life. Sunday morning, we talked about the sermon and how to relate it to our lives. It reminded me of the command found in Deuteronomy 6:7, “And you shall repeat them diligently to your sons and speak of them when you sit in your house, when you walk on the road, when you lie down, and when you get up.” Karen and I wish we lived closer to them so we could be more involved with their day-to-day lives (We are thankful we can connect via Facebook).

Celebrating baptisms should draw us all back to our commitment to Christ. This commitment should be part of everything we do – from work, to connecting with friends, to parenting, to loving our spouses, to being good neighbors. Consider your week; has your commitment to Christ been evident in all you do?
