Thinking About College? Consider Aurora University!

Mark Woolfington

While I was at Central Region’s triennial, I had the opportunity to catch up with Pastor Mark Woolfington, who serves as pastor of Church of the Highlands in La Grange, Illinois. He also serves as chaplain of Aurora University and has just been named as assistant professor of religion beginning in August. Aurora has a long history with the Advent Christian denomination with many alumni serving in our churches.

Aurora University is located 40 miles west of Chicago with a beautiful campus nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood. Aurora University’s location in the western suburbs of Chicago helps to provide students with opportunities for internships, jobs and other experiences in the nation’s third largest city. In addition to generous scholarships for Advent Christian students, there are several reasons to consider Aurora University for your student:

A vibrant campus ministries program, which Mark oversees in his role as university chaplain, includes Bible studies and student groups like InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Delight Ministries and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Worship services for and by students are held regularly.

Through the Wackerlin Center for Faith and Actions, students are provided with opportunities to volunteer in the community. Over spring break, the Center sponsors mission service trips with several Christian agencies throughout the United States.

Students can earn degrees in over 40 academic fields, including the growing fields of nursing, education, sports medicine and others. The Hill Center for Student Success coaches students through important steps as they prepare for their careers. Workshops on writing a resume, mock interviews and dressing for success are offered regularly.

Student athletes at Aurora University compete in 22 different sports for both men and women. Several programs are nationally ranked.
