God is in Control

Over the last 10 days, we’ve heard many different reports with varying opinions about the coronavirus and what may happen in our world. I have spent the last hour reading through the news and looking up reports from the CDC to begin writing this with some understanding about what is coming, but I’ve come to the realization that we don’t really know. However, one thing I am sure of is that God is in control of today, tomorrow and all eternity, so I will rest in him and trust him for whatever I face.

I have been pleased to see how so many of our churches and pastors have reacted to what has been happening. For the most part, churches have sought ways to minister to people in light of our quickly changing world. It’s been a blessing to be a part of so many different worship services and hear different pastors sharing from Maine to Florida to Texas to Illinois. Pastors have stretched themselves in technology, Internet presence and isolated ministry options to shepherd their flocks in difficult times. People have responded in caring ways to come alongside each other to help by picking up groceries, delivering meals or even walking the neighborhoods speaking across lawns to encourage one another.

The other day, I spent almost two hours calling my part of our congregation as one of the deacons just checking on people and seeing if we could do anything for them. It was interesting that not only were people glad I called, but they also wanted to talk and share for at least a few minutes. I encourage you to not isolate yourself in loneliness but take the time to call your friends and share together. If you’re on the Internet or social media, check into some of the worship or prayer times that are available through our churches.

This crisis will continue for a while, but it will end and we will pull ourselves together and continue to strive forward. The message we share during this time will be an ongoing witness to our commitment to one another and our desire to help those who are hurting. May God give us hearts that continue to reach out as he gives us an opportunity to touch lives in his name!
