Canceled: ACGC 2020 Triennial Convention

With the Executive Council’s approval, I have talked with the Great Wolf Lodge in Concord, N.C. and they are canceling our contract for the 2020 Triennial Convention which had been scheduled for August. The Council’s discussion centered around our current situation and the recovery of our churches from the stay-at-home orders. We are thankful for those who have continued to give to ministries, churches and community support, but we realize the stress on budget and reserves will be taxed during this time. Our concern was that trying to attend the convention in August would become too burdensome for our leaders and delegates, so we will reschedule the convention for a later date.

The Great Wolf Lodge has already issued refunds, so check your credit cards to make sure you have received those if you had a reservation. Director of Finance Dawn Rutan will be working with those who have already registered for the convention, so if you have any guidelines for those funds, please contact Dawn at drutan@acgc.us.

I hope this E-News finds you, your families and your church families all healthy and safe. This has been a trying time in a lot of ways for all of us. Again, I am so excited about how our pastors have responded to the stay-at-home orders across North America. The pastoral heart of our leaders has shown through as they have been creative, resourceful and long-lasting in reaching out – not only to their church members, but beyond in the community and across the country.

CARES Act

Our Executive Council met last week and discussed the current situation and what next steps we need to take as ACGC. As I have already shared, our office is closed at this time and will remain closed until the current stay-at-home order is lifted. ACGC has put in an application for the Federal CARES Act to assist with operational and salary expenses over the next few months. Local churches and Advent Christian associates may learn more about this here.

We are not experts at this, so I encourage you to go online or go to your local banks to get assistance. So far, we have found both of those sources very helpful at streamlining the process.

Thank you for your help!

We have heard from Advent Christian Village and Advent Christian Retirement Communities and both are blessed to have no cases of infection from the virus. Vernon Home Nursing Home, which is part of AC Retirement Communities, thanks all who have responded to their need for masks; they have almost reached their goal of 300. Please keep all of these communities in your prayers for safety and for their needs for medical grade supplies.

Advent Christian Village shared they would welcome any homemade masks that might be sent. They have to use medical grade for nursing home staff, but would love to share those homemade masks with residences and support staff. Please send them to:
