God is in Control

Steve Lawson, Executive Director

As we face the elections coming up this fall and as we view the Democratic and Republican Conventions what is our response? Don’t worry, I am not about to give anyone political advice or even tell you who I am supporting, but my question is this: what can we do or should we do as we move forward? As I shared a couple of weeks ago, I am careful not to allow these types of discussions to interfere with my ability to share about what God is doing in my life and how I can introduce someone to him. However, I believe we are called by Scripture to be good citizens and we should be informed participants in our communities.

One of the most important things we can do is pray for our elected officials and for those running for office to be under the influence and hand of the Holy Spirit. In the Old Testament, God shows his sovereignty by using foreign powers to complete his will and purposes in the affairs of his people. No matter who is in the office, God is in control, his plan will happen and I rest in that certainty as I look to the future. As we look at the future, it is vital that we have a Christian worldview that affects every area of our lives, including how we look at our society and the issues we face.

During these difficult days, there are many issues that should require us to speak truth in love from the Word of God. So, I challenge you to spend time praying for God to lead you as you examine the candidates and issues. Then spend soul-searching prayer time on being the salt and light that God calls you to be in your circles of influence.
