Remembering the Sacrifice

Executive Director Steve Lawson

Being with my son-in-law reminds me that on Memorial Day, we should be grateful for to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. I remember the day I got the phone call from my daughter when he was injured by an I.E.D. while deployed. It is hard to think about how different her life would be if we had lost him and the blessings of our grandsons. To think about the thousands of families that live everyday with the loss of a loved one makes my heart hurt and should help us remember the price of our freedom in this country. The men and women of our military willingly put themselves in danger to protect and preserve our freedom. To those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and to those who suffer the permanent injuries from their service we owe a huge debt of thanks and care.

Memorial Day should remind us of the price paid for our salvation by our Savior Jesus Christ. Think about the sacrifice that Jesus paid for all of us. He paid the price for our sins by facing the cross and dying, but that is not the end of the story. He rose again from the grave and all who receive him and accept his sacrifice will too rise again when he returns. When we participate in the Lord’s Supper, we remember the price for our sins. But every Sunday morning, we celebrate the resurrection and are reminded of our hope through him. We have days and seasons that help us remember important things in our lives, but the Holy Spirit lives inside everyone one of us and helps us to be thankful in our daily worship!
