Charlotte Iola Kelso Hall

Charlotte Iola Kelso Hall, 96, fell asleep in Christ on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Vernon Advent Christian Nursing Home in Vernon, Vermont. She was born on June 22, 1920 in Milford, Connecticut to Murriel and Cora (Valentine) Kelso.

She graduated from Live Oaks High School, in Live Oaks, Florida in 1938. She was recruited out of high school to work as a house mother for Dowling Park Orphanage. A year later, she attended Aurora College in Aurora, Illinois where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree. She worked as a teacher for a number of years before getting her Masters of Library Science from the University of Maine, Orono. She worked as a high school librarian in Calais, Maine and then Caribou, Maine. After leaving the public-school system, she organized the public library on Swan’s Island, Maine. After retirement, she continued her life of service by managing the library, creating a monthly activity calendar, teaching bible classes and other assorted volunteer activities for the Vernon Advent Christian Homes. She enjoyed gardening, reading, needlework, baking, bird-watching, Scrabble and other word games and spending time with friends and family.

Charlotte married Winslow Hall on June 15, 1944 in Aurora, Illinois. They served together in the Christian Ministry for 62 years. Charlotte and her husband were also members of the Gideons International.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and five siblings. Charlotte is survived by her two daughters, Cathleen Jane (Hall) Knox and spouse Kenneth L. Knox of Pittsfield, Maine and Sandra Lynne (Hall) Nordstrom of Vancouver, Washington; her sister Joyce (Kelso) Knox of Spartanburg, South Carolina; her grandchildren Cheryl Harris, Dan Knox, Bunny Pounds, Jeremy Knox, James Knox, Stephen Knox, Jennifer Lau, Shasta Tate and Todd Nordstrom; her 21 great-grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews and other relatives.

A graveside service will be held in Tyler Cemetery, Vernon, Vt. in the spring at a time to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Vernon Advent Christian Homes, 61 Greenway Drive, Vernon, Vermont 05354.
