Cristo Salva Sends Funds to Aid 100 Families

HONDURAS – Cristo Salva is a long-standing ACGC associate member. Their work to care for people and share the gospel is inspiring. In the wake of the pandemic, Cristo Savla was able to send funds to help some of the poorest families in Laguna Verde. Last week Pastor Claros, his wife Anita and church members were able to purchase enough food to make 100 bags. They also sent funds to area pastors who were having a hard time feeding their families. “It was a long day in the mountains,” reports Pastor Claros and his wife. “We were out in the community (of Valle Verde) all afternoon and into the evening passing dispensas (food packages) to the community. Thank you to the people that donated the money to allow us to serve our country of Honduras together with you!”

We thank God for the work they are doing. If you would like to donate straight to Cristo Salva, please do so here.

COVID-19 Relief Aid Sent to Our Ministries in Myanmar

All four ministries that comprise the Advent Christian Conference of Myanmar provide care for orphans and abandoned children. Due to COVID-19 restrictions in the country, food prices have risen nearly 40 percent. Thanks to generous donors, last week we were able to send relief funds to help with the escalating food prices. Each ministry leader was deeply grateful for the help.

Pastor Joseph (The Word Mission) writes:

To all who help in COVID-19

We wish to acknowledge with thanks the thoughtful donation of COVID-19 relief to The Word Mission. Words can’t express our thanks and appreciation for the help extended to us for which we have nothing to give you in return, but pray that God bless you abundantly.

Thanks for standing for us.

Joseph

Pastor David (Fellowship Bible Church) writes:

Thanks for your prayers and the relief assistance. We were able to buy 26 bags of rice today. (They use 20 bags per month to feed the children.)

Pastor Kenneth (Gospel for Myanmar) writes:

Hi Brother APAD, thank you and ACGC very much for the relief funds. On behalf of the Salem Family Home, I would like to say ‘thank you’ to all the donors who have a heart for the people in Myanmar. May the Lord Jesus continue to bless all of you abundantly in your ministries.

Brother Timothy writes,

We really appreciated your support for COVID relief to us. We have enough rice for two months. Please pass our words of thanks to all donors. God bless you richly.

Gospel for Myanmar (Pastor Kenneth) Celebrates In-Person Gatherings with a Wedding

Pastor Kenneth writes:

“The government has now lifted restrictions against large group gatherings. On Sunday, July 5 we held our first church worship service since COVID-19 restrictions were put in place. On that Sunday, our worship service included a wedding celebration. Every Sunday afternoon from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, we are now able to have Bible study at one of our church members’ houses. On July 8 we began holding times of fasting and prayer with our church ministers. Thank you, ACGC very much for your prayers and support. Please continue praying for Gospel for Myanmar and its ministries.”

Praises and Prayer Requests for Recent Political Developments in African Countries

PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS in African countries often are accompanied by accusations from the losing parties of fraudulent activity in the voting booths or in counting the votes themselves. You may see the hand of God in some very recent events in countries wherein the Advent Christians have ministries. “[God] changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding” (Daniel 2:21).

MALAWI – One year ago Peter Mutharika was re-elected to serve another term as Malawi’s president. Then, in an unprecedented move, the Constitutional Court threw out the results of the May 2019 election alleging widespread irregularities – a move only seen once in Africa before and never in Malawi. For the second time in 13 months, voters went to the polls, this time with a very different result. Opposition leader Lazarus Chakwera entered the race without a background in politics. This former Assemblies of God preacher testifies that this move to politics came from an argument he lost with God. Apparently, the majority believed in the sincerity of his story as he beat the incumbent with 59 percent of the vote. There have since been no reported protests.

BURUNDI – Pierre Nkurunziza, the former president, tried to find a loophole in the constitution to allow for a third term. Then he prohibited or delayed future elections, remaining in power for 15 years. Protests became very violent, causing an estimated 400,000 people to flee the country. In a strange turn of events, he suddenly and unexpectedly died on Monday, June 8 at the age of 55. A government statement said he had a heart attack, but there are rumors he may have been infected with COVID-19. Evariste Ndayishimiye was the winner of the May 20 vote with 67 percent, a figure verified by the East African Community, a regional body that gave the election a clean bill of health. He was sworn in two months early following the death of the former president. There have been no reported armed protests in the aftermath.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO (DRC) – The National Assembly appointed Corneille Nangaa as the chief official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI). This same official was accused of rigging past elections for the former president. Protests broke out in the streets of major cities in the DRC. Police resorted to tear gas to dispel the protesters and arrested many for not adhering to the COVID-19 prevention regulations. The DRC needs our prayers.

Widespread Coronavirus Effects in Burundi

The coronavirus is hugely affecting life in Burundi. Our AC Conference President Simeon Nzishura reports that with illness or the fear of it comes the loss of household income. More people are coming to the church in search of food and possible health care. He writes, “Pray that it will not spread over all the country.”
