Healing Evidenced by 16 Churches Returning to Mozambique Conference

MOZAMBIQUE – The former conference president of the Maranatha Advent Christian Conference in Mozambique had been engaging in acts of adultery and misappropriation of funds. Sixteen churches were so deeply affected that they disfellowshipped from the conference while seeking fellowship in the neighboring Malawi Conference. When word reached ACGC Area Director Bryce Whiting, he traveled there with Pastor Travis Hutcheson (Shiloh AC Church) to hear the accounts from all sides. The president’s resignation was forthcoming, a new president was put in place, and we are delighted at how the heart of God has expedited the healing.

A conglomerate of pastors and church leaders assembled on Sunday, July 19 at the Makara AC Church. After what was described as a “wonderful service,” the leaders began the work of organizing an annual conference meeting. It is scheduled for October 9, 2020, at which time they will extend the right hand of fellowship to:

  • new conference president Pastor Samuel Kasakatira;
  • 9 churches that have joined them in the past five months;
  • 16 former churches and pastors who are now returning to the Mozambique AC family.

We thank God for the forgiveness and reconciliation that has taken place. President Samuel Kasakatira writes, “Pray for the conference! Pray for us!”

Youth Paint Church and Bread of Life Aids Hungry in Latin America

ENSENADA, MEXICO – Praise the Lord, Pastor Jaime and Pastora Teri, leaders of a church south of Ensenada called “Torre de Salvacion” have fully recovered from a bout with COVID-19. They were treated at home without complications. Pastor Jaime is now organizing the youth to do a face-lift on the front of the church property. Pictured are a couple of the youth painting the community center co-located with the church. They have been able to continue the community feeding program providing and serving meals to the community, in spite of the restrictions. Many of the community labor force is out of work and without the kind of unemployment benefits that we have in the United States. The pastor thanks ACGC for the extra funding and the “Bread of Life” program for their support during this financially difficult time.
