News from Liberia Advent Christian Conference

The Advent Christian Conference of Liberia held their annual conference meetings on December 1 – 8, and they report that they had a wonderful time. There are 11 churches in this conference, but two were unable to attend because of the impassible roads. Only by hiring a large truck (yes, a large truck) were they able to transport a number of conferees. Ten pastors were present as well as officers and leaders of the churches.

The first three days were spent in worship, business and training sessions. The chief topic of business was how to grow the church and plant churches in unreached areas. The training sessions focused on the topic of how Jesus discipled people. When our Ambassador Team from the U.S. visited Liberia in October 2019, we brought this four-step strategy of Jesus:

  1. I will do it. You watch.
  2. I will do it. You help.
  3. You will do it. I’ll help
  4. You will do it. I’ll watch.

Since not everyone was not at the Leadership Conference in October, this is the lesson of discipleship that the conference taught to their deacons and deaconesses, Sunday school teachers, elders, and youth ministers. How encouraging it is to teach our brothers in Liberia and know that they are using it and teaching others!

On Thursday, the men’s fellowship held its meetings, and the women’s ministry met on Friday. Saturday was for youth ministry meetings including football (soccer) and other sport activities, which created much excitement. On Sunday morning, 10 new believers were baptized. Sunday afternoon saw the closing exercises, bringing to an end a week that many wished could have continued.

It is greatly encouraging to partner with churches in Liberia who are serious about the work of the Great Commission, training others to “observe all that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:20).
