Janice Clark Ainsworth was born on November 15, 1935 in Collierstown, Virginia. After graduating from High School, she worked for the state of West Virginia and then began attending New England School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts, which became Berkshire Christian College. She graduated as salutatorian of the class of 1960, with her Bachelor’s in Theology and a major in Christian Education.
While at Berkshire, she met A. Cameron Ainsworth Jr., who became her husband in August of 1960. The two ministered in Advent Christian Churches in Clearwater, Florida; Clovis, New Mexico; Rochester, New Hampshire; Memphis, Tennessee; Fort Worth, Texas; and Torrington, Connecticut.
During those years in addition to church ministry and raising their children, Janice also worked in the Juvenile Probation and Parole office in New Mexico and did a full 20 year career for the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service, where she became an officer and was commended on several occasions. She particularly enjoyed working on foreign adoptions during that time.
Janice enjoyed people, especially children. She always taught Sunday School, and led singing with children. Even during the last 10 years of her dementia journey, she “lit up” when there were children present.
Janice enjoyed painting, embroidering, quilting, sewing, singing and creating a homey environment wherever the family lived. She would tackle wall-papering or painting and made beautiful spaces in every parsonage they lived in. She was a fabulous cook, and was especially skilled at making all kinds of cookies.
Janice and Cameron retired to Haltom City, Texas in August of 2003, and she had a dream realized as they purchased the first home of their own.
On February 20, 2024, Janice fell asleep in Jesus. The dementia that stole so much from her over the last 10 years never touched the joy and graciousness that were an integral part of who she was. All those who took part in her care talked about her radiant smile and her kindness to them.
Janice leaves her daughter, Tracy Ainsworth, her son, Ariel Cameron Ainsworth III, her daughter-in-law, Lisa Ainsworth, her grandson, Cameron Joseph Ainsworth, her sister-in law, Constance Jones, a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
She died in the hope of the second coming of Jesus, and rests in him, awaiting the Resurrection morning.
