MTI Intro Series: MTI, It's Not for Everyone

Blog post by Matt Larkin, MTI Program Coordinator

While the Ministry Training Institute has been designed for most anyone, it is not for everyone. How do you know if you or someone within your church is a good candidate for MTI? Here are a few things to consider:

An MTI Candidate is Already Involved and Maturing

MTI is best suited for someone who is committed to growing in their journey with Christ and who live lives shaped by Jesus. They have a general knowledge of scripture and are willing to commit themselves to full participation in one of our programs. Perhaps they are currently serving within their local church. They might teach Sunday School classes, oversee men’s or women’s ministries, lead worship, or are small group facilitators. Any area of spiritual leadership within the church or home would benefit from participation in the program. The Ministry Endorsement certificate (our two-year program) is perfect for building a strong theological foundation for lay leaders and those seeking continued discipleship.

MTI is Great for Those Exploring their Calling

For anyone exploring or pursuing a specific call to ministry (Pastoral, Missions, or Church Planting), the 3.5 year Leadership in Ministry Certificate is designed for them. Along with the foundational courses included in the Endorsement track, students also engage in guided, independent study focusing on their area of interest. The last 18 months of course work are aimed at establishing strong interpretation and communication skills along with instruction in track-specific topics.

MTI Candidates want to Pursue Theological Development

The certificate programs available through the Ministry Training Institute have been developed to be accessible to anyone who desires to pursue continued theological development. Current enrolled students include young parents to older professionals to retirees and is compatible with most people’s schedule. Course work, mentoring and other projects were designed with the adult/professional learner in mind.

We encourage participants to prayerfully discern whether the Ministry Training Institute is the best resource for them. Recommendations from pastors and church leadership are part of the application process.
