MTI Intro Series: What are the Tracks?

Blog post by Matt Larkin, MTI Program Coordinator

The first two years are the core courses, then students choose a specific track.

While every student going through the Ministry Training Program experiences the same core courses during the first two years, we offer ministry-specific training during the last eighteen months of the certificate program. The three tracks we currently offer focus on Pastoral Ministry, Missions, and Church Planting.

The Pastoral Track

The courses in our Pastoral track equip students for ministry in the local church. This track is specially designed for those called to care for the body of Christ. Studies in hermeneutics and homiletics prepare leaders to understand and interpret Scripture in its context and then clearly communicate its truth. Participants are also trained to engage in culturally relevant interactions using apologetics and Christian ethics. While these subjects are important in Church leadership, the key elements of this track are found in its leadership and shepherding courses.

The Missions Track

Our missions track is intentionally formed to help equip gospel workers for effective cross-cultural ministry for those pursuing their call to missionary work. With a focus on practical preparation, students are instructed to best participate and engage in contexts different from their own. Along with continued personal and spiritual growth, participants will build on their understanding of the Mission of God as they seek to fulfill the Great Commission around the globe.

The Church Planting Track

Looking at local missions, our Church Planting track turns attention to establishing and multiplying Christ-centered, gospel-formed expressions of the gathered body. Developed in partnership with an established church-planting ministry, this certificate program offers practical training. This includes identifying the unique leadership dynamics of a new plant along with learning how to develop contextualized plans for reaching their community.

The General Ministry Certificate

While each of these specialized tracks have specific courses, students also have the option to pursue a General Ministry Certificate by opting to select courses from the various options available. This allows for a customized experience as leaders are best equipped for their areas of interest and call.
