New Task Force Launched
One session during the 2023 Triennial Convention featured a panel discussion regarding the efficacy and longevity of our current denominational structure. Some panelists felt the existing structure needed no change, while others felt some change was not just needed but inevitable because of a declining number of churches and church members throughout the denomination. There was a movement within the delegate body to engage in further thought, study and conversation around the topic.
While no action to this end was taken at the triennial convention, the Executive Council wanted to recognize and address the concerns of the delegates who wanted to foster additional dialogue around the topic. To this end, in February 2024, the Executive Council authorized the formation of the Study of Organizational Structure Task Force. This is only a study committee who will examine, evaluate and forecast the existing polity and denominational structure of the Advent Christian General Conference of America.
After three months of assembling its members, the task force began meeting in early June. An attempt was made to build groups that were diverse in terms of regional representation, level of service in the denomination, age and perspective on the issue. We are very thankful for the 12 people who agreed to serve.
The task force will be comprised of two groups who are each charged to produce a report covering the following:
- A description of the current denominational structure
- An analysis of the effectiveness of the current structure
- An analysis of the future and sustainability of the current structure
- Any recommendations
- Plan for implementation if there are any recommendations
- Explanation of how proposed changes support ACGC’s strategic plan
The two reports will then be synthesized into a single report. The task force will present the results of the final report:
- In writing and orally to the Executive Council prior to 2026 Triennial Convention
- In writing to the delegate body prior to the 2026 Triennial Convention
- Orally to the delegate body at the 2026 Triennial Convention
