New Year Baptisms in Liberia

The traditions of ringing in the New Year tend to evolve in the US. One might expect to see musicians perform, the ball drop, someone getting kissed, confetti falling, lights flashing, horns sounding and we may sing Auld Lang Syne while lifting (conservatively) a cup of eggnog. In Liberia, the AC Church rings in the New Year with the birth of new babes in Christ Jesus. The Word is preached, an invitation is given, people walk forward expressing a desire to surrender their lives to Jesus Christ, and if they are sincere, new names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. This year 10 young men and women decided to take that step of surrender and further testified of their commitment to Christ by entering the waters of baptism. Let’s pray that this tradition will never change.
