Open Air Revival Proves Fruitful

TANZANIA – Three pastors/evangelists gladly returned home from their exhausting venture into the Serengeti where they had proclaimed the Word of God to the Hadzabe tribe. There was hardly any time for them to rest, for on the day of their arrival they were leading their respective Wednesday night prayer meetings. One of them, Pastor Festus Tungaraza, was hardly a day early for the birth of his new baby boy Gideon.

After a little rest, the team returned to the Advent Christian conference leaders, gave a report of their travels, and insisted that evangelism continue in their own home territory. On May 28-30 they held open-air crusades in the Mwanza region, boldly proclaiming the good news of life in Jesus Christ. They were met with some strong opposition from local pastors who, threatened by the possible loss of their own congregations, went to local authorities insisting that they stop these open-air meetings. They were not successful since our conference in Tanzania is fully registered with the federal government and is given all rights to conduct meetings. The meetings continued as planned with singing, testimonies from newborn Christians of the power of God to change lives, and the preaching of the Word. Some of the opposing pastors attended and to their surprise they observed that these evangelists were sincere servants of the Lord. These were not sheep-stealers, nor were they charlatans seeking to profit from the crowds. Each pastor who was formerly in opposition to the meetings came forward and asked forgiveness for the trouble they had sought to cause.

The result: 56 came forward in repentance and prayer. 26 are now enrolled in discipleship teaching in preparation for baptism.

Acts 2:47: “And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.”
