Phyllis Marguerite Conary

August 10, 1921 – March 1, 2021

FRIENDSHIP – Phyllis M. Conary, 99, went lovingly into the arms of Jesus, Monday, March 1, 2021 following a period of declining health.

Born in Rockland, August 10, 1921, she was the daughter of Albert and Vera Winchenbaugh Cushman. Phyllis was educated locally and was a graduate of Thomaston High School. Later she studied for two years at Ballard Business School in Rockland.

One June 7, 1942, she married Frank B. Conary, Jr. in Deer Isle. Together they made their home in Friendship until Mr. Conary’s passing in 2003.

For over 30 years Mrs. Conary served as the postal clerk for the Friendship Post Office. Following the retirement of the Postmaster, she was promoted to that position and served for another 12 years before retiring herself at the age of 72.

Always active in her beloved community of Friendship, she served in many town capacities, including as a member of the Town Hall Committee, Secretary of the Friendship Selectmen and Treasure for the Friendship Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary. She was a faithful and active member of the Friendship Advent Christian Church for over 82 years, serving as Treasurer for 50 of those years. Additionally she served as clerk for the church and was a member of the Society of the Maine State Advent Christian Conference. She also found time to serve as treasurer for the Women’s Home and Foreign Missions.

Family was very important to Mrs. Conary and she delighted in her ever growing family of grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Predeceased by her husband; Mrs. Conary is survived by her son Warren A. Conary and his wife Sandra of Acton; her grandchildren, Rochelle Randall and her husband Joshua of Acton, Ryan Conary and his wife Amy of Berwick, Rosana Conary-Spence and her husband Megel Spense of Acton; her great-grandchildren, Katelyn Cobb, Rebekah Randall, Caleb Randall, Ethan Randall, Ashley Conary, Tyler Conary, Emma Conary, Brayden Conary, Noah Conary, Isaiah Conary, Zion Spence; as well as two great-great-grandchildren, Elena Cobb and Nolan Eliot.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Harbor View Cemetery, Friendship. Rev. Alan Chamberlain will officiate.
