Raymond Amnott, Jr.

Pike, NH — passed away at 80 years of age on Friday, May 20th, 2022, at Cottage Hospital due to natural causes.

Ray was born on April 19, 1942, to Raymond Linwood Amnott and Edna Davis Amnott of Augusta Maine. He grew up with three siblings Helen, Tim, and Joel in Colrain, Massachusetts. His family called him “Snook.” Ray took after his father and enjoyed being a part of music. He sang tenor in his school chorus and played the baritone. He graduated from Arms Academy in Colrain, Massachusetts.

He went to Berkshire Christian College in Lennox, Massachusetts. There he met his wife, Brenda Lynne Thorburn. He studied to become an ordained minister for the Advent Christian denomination. Ray and Brenda were married on August 6, 1966. They went on to have three children Lynne, Shelley, and James.

Ray pastored churches of the Advent Christian denomination in Vermont, New York, and West Virginia. Ray and Brenda used their musical gifts in their church ministry and often did special music with Ray singing tenor and Brenda singing alto. When he retired from pastoring, Ray and Brenda moved to Pike, NH for him to become the principal of Newbury Christian School in Newbury VT. After serving two years as principal, he took a position as security guard at Dartmouth College and was fondly called the “Jolly Green Giant.” He worked there for 20 years before retiring. In his retirement years he worked at Walmart in Woodsville, NH. He also served as an interim pastor for local churches in Vermont.

He enjoyed hiking local mountains in New Hampshire. He also went on to become a Master Gardener. He could be found spending many summer days weeding and caring for his garden. He shared his bountiful produce with family and neighbors.

Ray was a devout follower of his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He never met a stranger and considered everyone he met as a friend. He had a wonderful ability to make everyone feel welcome in his home. He considered himself a blessed man and leaves behind a strong legacy for his family and friends.

He is predeceased by his father Raymond Linwood Amnott, his mother Edna Davis Amnott, and his sister Helen Elizabeth Tirrell.

He is survived by his wife Brenda Lynne Amnott (Thorburn); his brothers Tim, and spouse Meredith; and Joel and spouse Susan; his daughter Lynne, and spouse Patrick Butler; his daughter Shelley, and spouse Christopher Accardy; and his son James, and spouse Darlene Amnott. He is also survived by grandchildren Rachel, and spouse Joshua Page; Elizabeth Accardy; Beth, and spouse Noah Siano; Hannah Accardy; Robert, and spouse Nicole Butler; Matthew, and spouse Kiah Accardy; McKenzie Amnott; Riley Amnott; Kendall Amnott; and Ethan Amnott. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren Carter Accardy and Sterling Accardy.

A celebration of life will occur at Newbury Bible Church in Newbury, VT on Saturday, June 4th, at 2:00PM.
