Remembering Missionary to Japan Rev. Floyd Warren Powers

October 8, 1927 – September 16, 2021

Floyd was born in Montpelier, Vermont and was the youngest of three children. He graduated from Biddeford, Maine High School, then attended Berkshire Christian College (NEST). Later he attended the department of Missionary Medicine at Shelton College and eventually Kobe Language School in Japan.

He accepted Christ as his Savior when he was 12 years old and united with the Advent Christian Church. He taught in Sunday school, was president of the Youth Organization, sang in the choir and played his trumpet in the services.

He entered Berkshire Christian College (NEST) for training in Christian service. The need for male missionaries in Japan was a compelling force in making his commitment for service in Japan.

Floyd became a Candidate Under Appointment to Japan in 1950, and in September of that same year was commissioned as a missionary to Japan. He was a member of the first group of missionaries to serve in post-war Japan. This group included Musa Ellis, who would later become Floyd’s wife. On October 11, 1950 this group of six missionaries sailed for Japan to begin their ministry. Together Floyd and Musa served in Japan for 50 years.

We at ACGC send our condolences to Musa and the family and ask that you pray for them. For more information click here.
