Marian Alice Horne was born on December 25, 1929 in Bristol, Connecticut to Rosa and Leon Horne, Sr.
Marian was active in the Bristol Advent Christian church as a young person and followed up a sense of call to Christian service by attending the New England School of Theology in Boston, Massachusetts. While at N.E.S.T., she met Donald E. Wrigley, whom she married on August 30, 1949.
For more than 50 years after that date, Marian served alongside her husband, Donald, in ministry to the Advent Christian denomination in Bath, ME; Whitman, MA; Providence, RI; Bellingham, WA; Hartford, CT; Waterville, ME; Clovis, NM; Walterboro, SC; Four Oaks, NC and Garner, NC. Marian also served as executive secretary of the national Women’s Home and Foreign Mission Society in Charlotte, NC from 1967-1971 and later as the national WH&FMS president.
In every church that Marian ministered in, she was active in children’s ministry, women’s ministry, and music ministry including both vocal and piano. In her later years of service, Marian also made an effort to be supportive to younger ministers and wives whenever she could.
In 2002, Donald and Marian moved to the Advent Christian Village. Marian remained active until poor health forced a move to the Good Samaritan Center in 2016. During her time there she continued to be an encourager to those she came in contact with and would pray for anyone who had a need. She fell asleep in Christ on May 22, 2018.
Marian is survived by her husband of 68 years, Rev. Donald E. Wrigley; daughter, Susan A. Darby; son, Rev. Donald B. Wrigley and wife, Penny; and sister-in-law, Shirley Horne. She is also survived by five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, three bonus great-grandchildren and two nieces.
