Clifton Hartley Alley

Clifton Hartley Alley, 80 years old, lived in Brewer, Maine, and Zephyrhills, Florida, for many years. He fell asleep in the Lord on Saturday, June 11, 2016, in Ormond Beach, Florida, surrounded by his family.

Clifton was born on December 1, 1935, in Beals, Maine, to Clifton Calvert and Octavia Agnes (Peabody) Alley. A handsome and hardworking man, with a kindness for strangers, he loved Jesus and to be about His work. Clifton enjoyed life, especially his family. He loved to drive his many campers, in which he took his family on many trips around the U.S. and Canada. He loved Lakeside Advent Christian Campground and his dog, Cocoa. He was a proud member of the 1951 Beals basketball team, which won the first of many gold championship balls for the area. He was a Field Engineer for IBM, as well as an entrepreneur who owned several businesses, including a tour bus company and a landscaping business. He proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was a Civil Defense volunteer during World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marion (Libby) Alley; his children Stephen Hartley Alley and his wife, Muriel, of Hampton, Virginia, Patricia Durkee of Brewer, Maine, Kevin Alley and his wife, Ronda, of Ormond Beach, Florida, and Donald Alley and his wife, Jennifer, of Lynchburg, Virginia; siblings Leona Libby and her husband Clinton Libby of Beals, Maine, Donaline Brown and her husband, Reverend Raymond Brown, of Dowling Park, Florida, and Jeannine Beal and her husband, Calvin Beal, Jr., of Beals, Maine; grandchildren Jason Alley, Sarah Marreel-Alley, Britney Alley, Adrian Durkee, Meghan Marreel-Alley, Paige Durkee, Cameryn Alley, Ethan Hartley Alley, Roisin Carter, and Jack Carter; as well as many special nieces and nephews.

Clifton is predeceased by his parents; his very special uncle, Thomas Peabody; his brother, Donald Alley; and a niece, Jannnell Lynn Beal.

The funeral was held at Beals Advent Christian Church, Beals, Maine, at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2016, and Clayton Blackstone, pastor of the Bangor Advent Christian Church, officiated. Clifton was laid to rest immediately following the service at the Great Wass Cemetery on Beals, Maine. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations be made in his name to the Beals Advent Christian Church.
