Dorothy Mildred Carter (August 13, 1919 – March 04, 2018)

Sandown, N.H.- Dorothy Mildred Carter, 98, of North Road entered into her eternal rest on March 4 at the Colonial Poplin Nursing Home.

Born August 13, 1919 in Norwalk, Connecticut, Dorothy was the youngest of 12 children born to the late Ewald and Dora (Hyhn) Knorr.

Dorothy was married to the late Raymond L. Carter, Sr. for nearly 76 years. They loved each other deeply and served as a great example of faith and commitment throughout their lives. They loved taking walks together daily. Dorothy and Ray lived in Norwalk until moving to the Maine/New Hampshire area in 2006.

Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Community Advent Christian Church in East Norwalk, Conn. She served in various capacities including teaching Sunday school.

Her faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life and brought her much peace and hope. She enjoyed reading her Bible and devotional books. She also worked for many years as a preschool teacher in Norwalk. Dorothy loved opening her home for picnics and visits with friends, cooking and baking for her family, and working on her garden and crossword puzzles. In recent years, she gained much joy from visits with her six great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Raymond L. Carter Jr.; her son-in-law Willie Batson; two granddaughters and their husbands, Courtney (Erik) Pedersen and Cammie (Dave) Gilchrist; and six great-grandchildren, Alexi Gilchrist, Mollie Pedersen, David Gilchrist, Nate Pedersen, Jonathan Gilchrist and Scarlett Gilchrist.

She was predeceased by her parents and siblings; her husband, Raymond Sr., her daughter, Cindy Batson; and Raymond Jr.’s wife Betsy Carter.

No services are scheduled at this time. A burial will be held in the spring in Norwalk, Conn.
